Forever Grateful

My son has attended Owl for three years. We have utilized their tutoring and full day programs. Our son is nine and young for his grade. He struggled with reading/writing. The Barred Academy has been an absolute blessing. Our son loved the program, the students and the teachers. We have seen incredible progress - he is now at, and above, grade level in all subjects. He loves reading and writing (never saw that coming!). Finding a program with trusted professionals, effective teaching and a place your kid truly enjoys learning is a godsend. I'm forever grateful for The Barred Academy. We continue to use Owl in the summers to avoid the summer slide. I highly recommend The Barred Academy!

Techniques for Success

Our daughter is 12 and has dyslexia and ADHD. For over 4 years, she has been learning techniques for success at Owl and then The Barred Academy. Shay has created an environment where our daughter can feel comfortable to make mistakes and not feel embarrassed. The classroom environment is so supportive that our daughter wants to go to school and learn. What more can you ask for in a school?

Clarity in a Supportive Environment

My daughter loves attending school every day; she never wants to miss even a minute because it is so meaningful, as well as a place she feels empowered and important. The first month of attending The Barred Academy she commented that she loves school so much because she knows exactly what she is learning; she finds clarity in a supportive environment. Shay and team are in tune to my daughter's strengths, interests, and the effective instructional support that she responds to best. My daughter has never felt so positive and optimistic about learning and perseverance until she began attending The Barred Academy.

“Both of my children, ages 7 and 11, are students at The Barred Academy. They have grown so much in self-esteem, social emotional learning, and academic learning. The teachers at Barred Academy are caring and treat each child as whole and capable. They are able to support each child's unique learning needs while at the same time challenging each child to reach their potential in learning. This year, my daughter has grown so much and describes herself as a scholar (what students are called there) with pride. My son started with the Owl Ed Group initially as a tutoring student when he was diagnosed with ADHD and a potential learning challenge with written expression. He has grown from below grade level in written expression to testing at post 12th grade level, in just a few months. The teachers there are truly masterful in helping children who have non-traditional learning needs. After unsupportive and challenging experiences at public and charter schools and after 2+ years of homeschooling, I know so well what a unique gift these teachers offer. I'm so grateful my kids get to learn and grow in a safe, caring environment where their knowledge and confidence is flourishing.”

Life-changing

The Barred Academy, Shay, and the entire team have been life-changing for our dyslexic son and us as a family. The amount of care, passion, and balance that they find in and out of the classroom exceed all expectations. This is a marathon, not a sprint. The team and Shay break down the situation, the anxiety, and fear, and seek to understand each child first. Then the building begins in a structured, thoughtful manner with constant evaluation and tuning. It is a partnership with parents and we cannot be more thankful for the path we are on in that journey with The Barred Academy and the team. This is our second year, we will be back for at least one more. Our son loves his classmates, teachers, and the environment they have created.

Passionate & Genuine Care

My daughter was diagnosed with dysgraphia and dyslexia before entering third grade. I am so thankful I found Owl Education Group, they literally changed my daughter's life. Livy was struggling with basic learning, she could not retain the alphabet, could not read, or even remember sight words. She had always loved school, but frustration was starting to get in her way. We started one on one summer tutoring and after just a few weeks Livy proudly recited the alphabet to me! I will never forget that day, she said to me, "I CAN learn to read! It just turns out that my brain works differently!". Her confidence soared from that day forward, and without hesitation we enrolled her in The Barred Academy. Livy has worked hard, but has loved every day at Barred. Her love for school is now stronger than ever (she begged for summer school!). Livy is now thriving in her school work, and her favorite pastime is reading!! As a parent who has witnessed their child struggle through three different private schools, I believe what sets Barred apart is the passionate and genuine care of Shay and her staff. Their deep commitment to these children is intrinsic to every part of their school day whether it be academic, social emotional, or authentic support for individual needs. Livy's emotional growth at Barred has been astounding, and she has developed trusting relationships with her teachers. Our family is so grateful for Barred and all they have done for Livy.
